A few examples of big congresses the city of Enschede has hosted in the past.
Organised by the Junior Kamer Twente, part of the Junior Chamber International, a networking organization for entrepreneurs between the age of 25-40. With special guest Al Gore, former vice-president of the United States of America. Guided by the motto ‘A sensational exploration’ the 800 participants delved into themes such as sustainability, technology and entrepreneurship, accompanied by a festive side programme. For this national convention the organization arranged for a few quite surprising locations spread across Enschede, from the University of Twente campus and the enormous Twente Airport complex, to the roof terrace of the Alpha tower, the tallest building in the province of Overijssel.
At the Grolsch Veste, home stadium to FC Twente, in one day over 500 participants were completely updated on the latest developments in the area of High Tech Systems and Materials (HTSM) and the production industry. Entrepreneurs, researchers, government and knowledge-based institutions were given a clear insight into opportunities and trends next to networking. The Innoversum Innovation Congress is held in a different location in the Netherlands annually.
TAFISA is an international federation that is dedicated to making sports available for everyone anywhere in the world. Around 400 participants coming from over 50 countries came to Enschede to exchange knowledge, news and experiences, with the Wiminktheater and Muziekcentrum as a starting point. The cooperation between the organizers of the event (the Dutch Institute for Sport and Physical Activity) and a large number of partners within the city of Enschede, such as sporting associations, rehabilitation centre Het Roessingh, Humanitas (one of the main social services and community building organisations of the Netherlands) and care organization Livio was exeptional. They offered the visitors of the congress a look into the everyday sports activities in the city of Enschede.
