The unique exhibition “In het hart van de Renaissance” (lt. “In the heart of the Renaissance) takes place from the 11th of February till the 18th of June 2017 in the Rijksmuseum Twenthe. From Rafaël to Titiaan and from Bellini to Tintoretto; never before have there been so many works from the masters from the golden years of Italian painters on display in the Netherlands. The majority of paintings in Enschede come from the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo museum in the Italian city of Brescia.
In March a delegation of diplomats from over 30 countries, such as Mexico, Canada, Germany and the United States, visited the Rijksmuseum on invitation of the Italian ambassador. They were welcomed by the museum director Arnoud Odding and mayor Onno van Veldhuizen. Special attention was given to the Italian masters Rafaël and Giovanni Battista Moroni.
Van Veldhuizen called the Italian ambassador Andrea Perugini also “an ambassador of Enschede”. Perugini was able to show his country’s art treasures thanks to a cooperation between het Rijksmuseum Twenthe and the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo.
