Perhaps one of the most commonly known Dutch customs is ‘Going Dutch’. This is a term that indicates that each person participating in a group activity pays for himself, rather than any person paying for anyone else, particularly in a restaurant bill. While considered rude in some countries, it is a common practice in the Netherlands and in Dutch it is called ‘Sam Sam’, not incidentally, this is also a popular bistro in Enschede.
What other customs do you have to consider while staying in the Netherlands? Mind that it is not considered impolite to ask about basic rules, but some general knowledge about Dutch customs and etiquettes will be appreciated by the Dutch.
